Open Access Policy
GBP Open Access Information and Policy
All articles published in GBP journals are immediately available worldwide under an open access license. This means:
Full-text access to all articles is free and unlimited for everyone.
Published material can be reused freely with proper citation and accreditation.
Open access is supported by the payment of a relatively low Article Processing Charge (APC) by the authors' institutions or research funding agencies.
Permissions
No special permission is required to reuse any part of an article published by GBP, including figures and tables. For articles published under the Creative Commons CC BY license, any part of the article can be reused without permission as long as the original article is properly cited. Reusing the article does not imply endorsement by the authors or MDPI. Authors may also submit their work to external repositories without any restrictions. This policy applies to all versions of a paper, including submitted, accepted, and published versions.

Meaning of Open Access
In line with the Budapest, Berlin, and Bethesda declarations, MDPI defines open access with the following principles:
- Peer-reviewed literature is freely available without subscription or price barriers.
- Literature is immediately released in open access format (no embargo).
- Published material can be reused without permission as long as proper citation is given.
This means all articles published in GBP journals, including data, graphics, and supplements, can be linked from external sources, indexed by search engines, and reused in text mining applications or blogs, free of charge, with proper accreditation. MDPI believes open access publishing enhances interdisciplinary research and provides global access to research, including for researchers in developing countries and the general public.
Advantages of Open Access for Authors
- High Availability and Visibility: Open access articles are freely accessible online, ensuring they reach a wide audience. Readers do not need to pay subscription fees to access the full text.
- Higher Citation Impact: Open access articles tend to be cited more frequently due to their high visibility and accessibility.
- Lower Publishing Costs: Open access publishers cover the costs of editorial handling and editing through the Article Processing Charge (APC). The APCs are generally much lower than the income per article generated by traditional publishing.
